St Lawrence Catholic Primary School has chosen to name our school houses with the names of Saints whom we feel represent the diverse culture of our school and which have special meaning.

 

St Bernadette

Born: 7th January 1844 - Lourdes, France

Died: 16th April 1879 - Nevers, France

Full Name: Marie- Bernarde Soubirous

Feast Day: 16th April

Bernadette Soubirous, also known as Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, was the first born daughter of a miller from Lourdes, France and is best known for experiencing Marian apparitions of a young lady who asked for a chapel to be built at the nearby cave / grotto.

St. Bernadette is the patron saint of the poor, those ridiculed for their faith, the sick, and shepherds.

Chosen by Almighty God as a channel of His Graces and Blessings, and through your humble obedience to the requests of Our Blessed Mother, Mary, you gained for us the Miraculous waters of Spiritual and physical healing. Holy Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, Pray for us.

 

St Francis of Assisi

Born: 26th September 1181 - Assisi, Italy

Died: 3rd October 1226 - Assisi, Italy

Full Name: Giovanni di Pietro di Berardone

Feast Day: 4th October

St Francis of Assisi was born in 1181 and is the founder of the Franciscan Order. Francis abandoned a life of luxury for a life devoted to Christianity, after reportedly hearing the voice of God, who commanded him to rebuild the Church and live in poverty.

St Francis is the Patron saint of animals and the environment.

Heavenly Father,
You gave Your servant Francis great love for each of Your creatures.
Teach us to see Your design in all of creation.

St Clare of Assisi

Born: 16th July 1194 - Assisi, Italy

Died: 11th August 1253 - Assisi, Italy

Full Name: Chiara Offreduccio

Feast Day: 11th August

St Clare of Assisi is an Italian saint and is one of the first followers of Francis of Assisi. She founded the Orders of Poor Ladies, a monastic religious order for the women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic guidelines known to have been written by a woman.

St Clare is the patron saint of eye disease, embroiderers, laundry workers, needle workers, telephones, and television.

O Blessed Saint Clare, your life shines like a beacon and cast its light down the ages of the Church to guide the way of Christ. Look with compassion on the poor and humble who call on you for help. As you bow before your Eucharistic Lord in Heaven, speak to Him of my afflicted body and my broken spirit. Amen.

 

St Martin de Porres

Born: 9th December 1579 - Lima, Peru

Died: 3rd November 1639 - Lima, Peru

Full Name: Juan Martin de Porres Velázquez

Feast Day: 3rd November

St Martin de Porres grew up in poverty. When Martin was 15, he was received as a servant boy at the Dominican Convent and eventually became the church officer in charge of distributing money to deserving poor.

Martin was praised for his unconditional care of all people, regardless of race or wealth. He would welcome anyone into his own home.

St Martin is the patron saint of barbers, innkeepers, public health workers and all those seeking racial harmony.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who inflamed the heart of Saint Martin with an ardent love of the poor and Who taught him the wonderful joy of true humility and the wisdom of always submitting to God's Holy Will, grant that, like him, we may be ever truly humble of heart and full of Christlike charity for suffering humanity.
